Welcome to Medness.org; a supportive mental health community, giving you the lowdown on psychiatric meds from those who take them.

Crazy pills, happy pills, uppers, downers, sleepers- we've taken them all and been spun round and round on the med-go-round.

It's difficult to get a balanced perspective on meds; we're bombarded with the message that psychiatrists are nothing but drug-pushing quacks whose only interest is to slap a diagnosis on you and get you the hell out of their office. Then there are the pharmaceutical companies who tell you that your pills will magic away all your problem and you'll wake up to a Zoloft morning.

Welcome to the middle ground. We're here to give you the skinny on psychiatric meds, such as antipsychotics, antidepressants and mood stabilisers and to support you in your journey.

This site comprises information, research, reviews and the honest-to-god experiences of living with psychiatric medications, all from the people who've taken them. We believe that medication can be a vital tool in managing mental health problems. We believe it's your choice if you want to take them and absolutely your choice how you feel about taking them. And we believe that knowledge is power.

Getting your head around meds is hard. There's a whole wealth of psychiatric medications out there and it can be a hit and miss process finding out what works for you and what doesn't. And there's the battles of managing side effects and managing lifestyle changes.

Our supportive forum is free to join and welcomes your participation. You'll find a community of varied people who are living with mental health problems such as depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, anxiety and more. Our goals here are:

    1. To provide you with straightforward, bullshit-free information about psychiatric medication, including research, studies, side effects and reviews from the people who take them

    2. Guidance from the community through shared experiences and suggestions. Join in!

    3. Support and socialization with people who are your peers, who would like to get to know you and listen to you without looking at the clock.

    4. An opportunity to be part of our community, to add to our knowledge base, and to reach out to newcomers to the site; helping others is very therapeutic in itself.

We don't believe in magic fixes. We believe that people should be able to make informed decisions about the medication they're prescribed, whether they choose to take those pills or not.

And we know that medication is only part of the mix, so we have a dedicated lifestyle management section for you to check out.

    Welcome and good luck.
